RIBERA ORANGES
Oranges Ribera, belong to the group of oranges umbilicated, for the characteristic navel in the lower extremity. It is a blonde orange-fleshed, seeded and skinned easily detachable from the pulp with a high content of vitamins, minerals and sugars.
The production area includes the areas falling within the area of Agrigento in the cities of Bivona, Burgio, Calamonaci, Caltabellotta, Cattolica Eraclea, Cianciana, Lucca Sicula, Memphis, Montallegro, Ribera, Sciacca, Siculiana and Villafranca Sicula and the area of Palermo in the town of Chiusa Sclafani.
There are different varieties: the Washington Navel, Navelina, Brazilian and Vanilla. The collection for the variety Navelina begins in early November and ends in late February, while for the Brazilian and Washington Navel variety starts in the first week of December and ends at the end of May. The cutting of the fruits is carried out with the use of scissors in order to avoid the detachment of the glass.
