SANTA MARGHERITA DI BELICE DOC
Santa Margherita di Belice is a D.O.C. established in 1996. It includes wines produced in the towns of Santa Margherita di Belice, and Montevago in the area of Agrigento. The climate of this area is very favorable for the ripening of the grapes because it is affected by sea breezes, long summers and springs that favor the ripening of fruits.
The type of white is obtained from grapes of Ansonica to 30-50%, Grecanico and/or glossy white Cataratto to 50-70% with the addition of those of other white grapes for a maximum of 15%; has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections; delicate, fruity and distinctive fragrance; taste is dry, harmonious, lively and fresh.
The Red version is obtained from grapes of Nero d'Avola, 20-50%, Sangiovese and/or Cabernet Sauvignon, 50-80%, which can be added to those of other red grapes for a maximum of 15% has ruby red color with garnet hues; vinous, ethereal, especially fine smell; taste is dry, slightly tannic, with good structure.
The D.O.C. Santa Margherita Belice followed by one of the expressions Ansonica Cataratto, Grecanico, Nero d'Avola, Sangiovese, is reserved for wines made with at least 85% from grapes of the same variety.
