CONTEA DI SCLAFANI DOC

The Contea Sclafani D.O.C. is produced in the territory comprehending the eleven towns of the area of Palermo, including Sclafani Bagni, in the entire territory of the towns of Vallelunga Pratameno and Villalba, in the area of Caltanissetta, and partly of Cammarata, in the area of Agrigento. The name derives from the greek Sclafani "Esculapifanum", which means "sacred to Aesculapius," perhaps due to the presence on site of a temple dedicated to this god.

 

The White Contea Sclafani is obtained from grapes Cataratto, Inzolia, Grecanico in minimum percentage of 50%; the Red Contea Sclafani is obtained from Nero d'Avola and Perricone, at least 50%; the Rose Contea Sclafani is obtained from Nerello Mascalese in minimum percentage of 50%. They can be used to produce these wines, for the remaining percentage, the other grapes in the areas of Palermo, Agrigento and Caltanissetta. The white mono-varietal Ansonica, Inzolia, Catarratto, Chardonnay, Grecanico, Grillo, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and mono-varietal red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola, Pinot Nero, Syrah, Calabrese, Perricone and Sangiovese are made from grapes of Sangiovese varieties corresponding to at least 85%. 

 

The White Contea Sclafani shows to the visual inspections a pale yellow color more or less intense sometimes with greenish reflections. It has a pleasant fragrance, fine and elegant and harmonious taste, delicate, tasty and savory. The Red Contea Sclafani has a ruby red color more or less intense with any purple hues. Its scent is pleasant, fine, vinous flavor is dry and harmonious, rich in structure. The Rose Contea Sclafani presents instead a pale pink color, a pleasant aroma, fine, fruity and fragrant taste, and examination is delicate, harmonious, fresh and lively.
