CEUSO
Between the rows of the family, the brothers Melia mature the idea of producing red wines in an area of ancient winemaking tradition: Alcamo.
The Melia brothers devote themselves to the cultivation of the vine, in the area around the town of Alcamo, traditionally known for its white wine production. In the early 90’s they introduce varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, focusing on the quality of the grapes. The vineyards are located in the north western part of Sicily, a few kilometres from the famous Temple of Segesta, in a land rich in beauty and charm. On these hilly lands, Melia brothers cultivate 50 hectares of vineyards. Special attention is given to indigenous varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Grillo, Grecanico and, recently, the Moscato di Alessandria (Zibibbo).
In 1999 the Melia brothers detect an ancient baglio (a typical Sicilian structure where wine is made) dating from 1860, already cellar at that time, that they restructure it back to its original splendour and introduce the most modern and sophisticated technology in the cellar. Nowadays they produce three lines of wines: Ceuso, Fastaia and Scurati. The total production is about 130.000 bottles.
