NATURE RESERVE OF THE ZINGARO
The reserve extends in the western part of the Gulf of Castellammare into the peninsula of San Vito Lo Capo that looks out to the Tyrrhenian sea between Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani. First Nature Reserve established in Sicily (06 May of 1981), it extends along the coast for more than 7 km and 1700 hectares of unspoilt nature.
There are mountains that rise from the sea, crossed by trails that lead to the discover of amazing landscapes.
In the reserve there are over 800 species of rare plants and about forty species of birds.
The best way to visit the reserve is to walk. Three are the classic paths: the first is the main path of the Reserve, it is the most popular and also the less challenging; 7 km of length, it cross the coast from a limit to another. Duration: about 2 hours (one way). The second path is more panoramic and challenging, length of 8,5 km. Duration: about 4 hours. Participants will proceed in a zig zag pattern on the territory, which runs through the Reserve from south to north. Finally, the third path is reserved for sportsmen, length of 17,5 km. Duration: about 7 hours, crossing all the Reserve from the top to the bottom.
