VALLE DEI TEMPLI

The Valley of the Temples is an archaeological site located near Agrigento. Since 1997, the entire archaeological zone has been included in the list of world heritage sites, prepared by UNESCO.

The park where the temples are located is about 1300 hectares large, retains an extraordinary architectural heritage and landscape that includes the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas.

In the fifth century B.C. were built the temples in Doric style, with calcareous tufa found on site. The temples of this area arise between campaigns of almonds and flowers.

The temple of Concord is the best to be preserved. Fascinating also the temples of Heracles, who is the oldest, and one of Zeus. Then there are the Temple of Juno, Castor and Pollux, Vulcan and Aesculapius. Enchanting also the location of the Temples, all facing East so that the statue of the god inside the temple was radiated by the sun rising in the morning.
