CATHEDRAL MONREALE
The Cathedral of Monreale, was founded by the Norman King William II "The Good", in 1174, dedicating it to the Virgin Mary.
The Cathedral, famous for its structure, the richness of the interior and the wonder of the mosaics, is certainly the most magnificent monument of the Norman period in Sicily.
It has a Latin cross commissa plan, divided into three naves. The middle one, larger twice as the ones on the side; are divided by 9 columns on each side. On them are placed Roman capitals and precious Byzantine-style pulvinos, completely covered in mosaic, on which are set mosaic arches.
