MOLINO EXCELSIOR

The Molino Excelsior is located in Valderice, in a picturesque location between the golden fields and the slopes of Mount Erice. It was founded in 1904 by local entrepreneur Vincenzo Gervasi. The mill remained in operation until the end of the 60s of last century, was driven by a cylinder system and was equipped with two separate installations, one for the milling of wheat for its own account and with the production of five types of flour and one for the milling of other companies with the production of two types of flour.

Thanks to the sensitivity of the municipal administration of Valderice, the mill was returned to the community after a long restoration project and, now, houses the Centro Cultura Gastronomica, becoming a reference point for the development of the local gastronomic tradition.

Inside the mill here is a small museum of wheat and rural culture, in which are machinery used in the past, made of cast iron, steel, larch and some tools.

There are many activities planned in the Centre, in particular, the school of Sicilian cuisine, dedicated to those who have a passion for food and want to learn new recipes, but mostly to approach the Sicilian gastronomic culture and bring inside a piece of the island, its history, its strong flavors and aromas, all the ingredients that make it a unique land.

At the cooking school wise chefs will guide visitors in the preparation of traditional Sicilian dishes, the result of a long history of contamination between different cultures. Arabs ingredients mixed with French flavors, oriental spices with Spanish flavors. Taste routes in which participants put "hands-on" preparing various dishes of the Sicilian tradition.
